Koushik Chakroborty is a Lecturer in the Department of Aquatic Environment and Resource Management at the Faculty of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Marine Science, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He holds an MS in Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Environment (CGPA 4.00/4.00) and a BS in Fisheries (CGPA 3.997/4.00) from Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) (Former name- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University), graduating at the top of his class in both degrees. His academic excellence has been recognized through the Prime Minister's Gold Medal nomination (2019), the Nagao Natural Environment Foundation Scholarship (2015–2018), and the BSMRAU Merit Scholarship awarded for achieving the highest undergraduate CGPA.
His research integrates environmental science, geospatial analysis, and aquatic ecosystem management to address contemporary environmental challenges. Using GIS, remote sensing, field observations, and statistical modelling, he investigates land-use and land-cover change, shoreline dynamics, water quality, ecosystem services, climate vulnerability, and the interactions between environmental change and human livelihoods. His work aims to generate evidence that supports sustainable environmental management, natural resource conservation, and climate adaptation.
Koushik has authored peer-reviewed publications spanning ecosystem monitoring, environmental assessment, aquaculture sustainability, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, and coastal ecosystem studies. Through these interdisciplinary contributions, he has developed expertise in combining ecological knowledge with quantitative spatial analysis to support environmental decision-making.
His broader research interests include Earth observation, environmental monitoring, water resources management, natural capital assessment, ecosystem intelligence, and the application of computational methods and geospatial technologies for environmental analysis.
In addition to his academic and research activities, Koushik actively participates in professional development through national and international workshops, conferences, and interdisciplinary collaborations focused on climate resilience, water sustainability, and environmental monitoring. He is a member of the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) and the Fisheries Alumni Association of BSMRAU, reflecting his commitment to leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.
As a university lecturer, he is committed to fostering critical thinking, quantitative skills, and research excellence among students while contributing to interdisciplinary environmental research. His long-term research vision is to develop innovative geospatial and computational approaches that integrate Earth observation, field-based environmental data, and ecological modelling to support sustainable water resource management, ecosystem conservation, and evidence-based environmental policy.
