Welcome to the Department of Aquaculture Aquaculture is the fastest growing food producer in the world over the last century and Bangladesh ranks 5th position as per aquaculture production. The sector plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the country through nutrition supply, employment generation, poverty alleviation and foreign exchange earnings. Aquaculture sector in Bangladesh is now become an important industry to produce safe fish and shrimp. Applying new environmental-friendly technologies enable farmers to produce fishes more efficiently by using small area with less power. Sustainable mechanization in aquaculture can also contribute significantly to the development of value chains and food systems. Therefore, the curricula and courses of the Department of Aquaculture have been designed to deliver quality and high standard theoretical and practical knowledge to produce quality graduates capable of developing environmental-friendly, modern and profitable aquaculture industry of finfishes, crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic plants. Besides, the graduates will be able to conduct time demanding research in the relevant fields of aquaculture both in freshwater and marine environment.   The Department of Aquaculture is one of the vital departments in the Faculty of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Science of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. The department offers different courses on aquaculture systems, fish feed and nutrition management, and aquafarm design and management in undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MS) programs. The department is planning to offer Ph.D. in Aquaculture degree soon. This department also conducts the research on time demanding issues in aquaculture with the collaboration of national and international organizations. The aim of the Department of Aquaculture is to provide the knowledge of aquaculture by maintaining the highest academic standard in line with the international standard of education and to educate students of high quality of scientific, strategic planning, training, managerial and professional competence on aquaculture practices through academic and research activities to contribute knowledge to society and the nation.
